Art is not only for your walls! Plan to visit SOFA Chicago (Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design Fair) on Navy Pier November 2 to 5 and explore hundreds of three-dimensional works of art for your home. While you’re there, please join me and Chicago interior designers Michael Del Piero, Linc Thelen and  Jorge Simes for a panel discussion Friday, November 3, on collecting and displaying art. Andrea Mills, editor-in-chief of Interiors Chicago, will moderate the lively and information-packed conversation at the Navy Pier Sculpture Garden. We will talk about starting an art collection, how we discover artists, art and galleries, designing a room around a piece of art, trends in framing, how to combine 2-D and 3-D art and how we, as designers, balance a client’s personal taste in art with design aesthetics. Modern Luxury’s Interiors Chicago magazine is sponsoring the event, which begins with a cocktail hour from 3 to 4 PM, immediately followed by the panel discussion.

Plan to make a day of it, or at least part of a day! SOFA Chicago showcases roughly 80 dealers and draws 35,000 people annually. The event includes a lecture series and special exhibits exploring the artwork on view and trends in the art world. This is a wonderful show – hope to see you there!
