Must-do Art Walk

August 4, 2016

Mark your calendars for the River North Design District’s Fall Gallery Walk on Friday, Sept. 9.

"Calendar" by Gale Gand

Art lovers take note! Mark your calendars for the River North Design District’s Fall Gallery Walk on Friday, Sept. 9. You don’t have to be an art aficionado to enjoy this popular event. Artwork from emerging and established artists will be exhibited from 5 to 9 PM in home furnishings show rooms in River North, including pieces by Chicago’s own celebrity chef, Gale Gand - yes, she paints canvases, not just dessert plates! The Gallery Walk is an easy, no-pressure way to see exciting new art and meet the artists in a relaxed environment.

"Making Peace With My Love For Ricky" by Gale Gand

I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Gale’s abstract paintings – you may remember her as the James Beard Award winning, founding pastry chef and co-partner of Michelin-rated Tru restaurant, or from her former Food Network show “Sweet Dreams.” She is jumping into the art world for the first time with a selection of colorful and sometimes playful pieces – in one piece she outlined cookie cutters and you might find her thumbprints in others! I guess she likes to get up-close and personal with her art.

"Drifting" by Sally Ko

I'm excited about seeing Sally Ko’s work too. http://sallyko.com/home.html.  Sally is a Korean-born artist who grew up and studied art in Chicago – her work is wonderful! She’s equally good doing textural white canvases or layers of color, and I love her “drippy” ones. They’re fluid and so realistic you think they’re going to keep dripping onto your floor!
