It was truly a pleasure to share a basketful of ideas about home accessorizing recently with such a receptive audience at Cook Memorial Library in Libertyville. Thanks to Valentina Cotini, the Adult Program Coordinator for inviting me, and to the more than 30 people who attended my newest seminar – “Inspirational Ideas – Accessorizing.”  If you missed it, don’t worry! Our Studio Manager, Lauren Brown, streamed the seminar live on Facebook – it has gotten over 650 hits, and counting! - so you can watch it at home by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/sweetpeasdesign/videos/1277770885600316

Want more? You can schedule me to speak at a meeting of your organization or club by visiting the Seminars page on the Sweet Peas Design website,  http://sweetpeas-inspired.com/seminars. Just click on the “contact us” link. I have a number of design programs available, including “Inspirational Ideas – Kitchens” and “Inspirational Ideas – Great Rooms.” In the meantime, here are nine tips to help you accessorize your home:

  • Always accessorize after all the main furnishings are in place, including the rug
  • Gather all your accessories from throughout the house in one location, preferably the kitchen.
  • Set aside the ones that have the most meaning for you.
  • From the rest, group together similar items – lamps, plants, urns. You probably have a lot of duplicates!
  • Donate to charity the ones that look old or that you are tired of looking at Work in one room at a time.
  • Don’t hang any art or mirrors until the whole house is done – just lean them against the wall where you want them. Step back frequently and check out the whole-room view.
  • Make a list of the “holes” in your design scheme so you know what you need to purchase

The whole process – minus the shopping – should take you several days, so if you get started now you can put together a new look for your home before the winter holidays!
