Kitchen Klatch Rocks!

February 25, 2015

As a long-time lover of all things culinary it was a pleasure to dish about kitchens with a distinguished panel of experts at an event recently sponsored by the River North Design District.

As a long-time lover of all things culinary it was a pleasure to dish about kitchens with a distinguished panel of experts at an event recently sponsored by the River North Design District.

Should kitchens be strictly functional or should we personalize them? Are white kitchens still sizzling? Is the work triangle – from sink to stove to refrigerator – still relevant?

The shorts answers for me are: Yes, we should get personal with our kitchens. White is timeless and the work triangle may have morphed a bit but it’s still vital to any cook, serious or casual.

It was such a pleasure to hear from New York-based writer Barbara Ballinger, author of the recently released  “The Kitchen Bible: Designing Your Perfect Culinary Space,” Cindy Dampier, Trib magazine/Home editor at Chicago Tribune and interior designers Michael Del Piero of Michael Del Piero Good Design and Janet Shiff of Blutter/Shiff Design Associates.

Thanks to Karin Wowk, showroom manager at Florense USA in Chicago, for hosting the event and including me with all these talented women. I’ll be elaborating on some of the key take-aways in future blog posts. In the meantime, please enjoy these great kitchens from the panel.
