Sizes of new homes are smaller than in years past. The era of the McMansion is over. Gone are formal living and dining rooms, two story foyers and sweeping staircases,  instead look for expansive kitchens and great rooms.  Newly constructed homes have more open floor plans so families can connect and share. It is all about flow and less about formality. We downsized three years ago from a McMansion to smaller home and my two college children and I have loved the coziness of it. Now, we are downsizing again to be yard and maintenance free.
