A Tisket, A Tasket, A Vase Instead Of A Basket

October 20, 2014

When is a blanket basket not a basket? When it’s a big ceramic vase, an old rice paddy box, a wooden log holder or perhaps an orange crate or apple orchard basket.

You can tell I’ve been feeling the chill of autumn because I’m thinking about cozy afghans and throws and creative ways to corral them at home so they’re neat and handy.

I think every family room or nook where you curl up for quiet time needs a blanket and a fun, maybe quirky container to hold it. Sometimes an actual basket is perfect, but there are no rules. Consider it an opportunity to let loose and try something creative, maybe colorful.

Sure, you could buy something, but first take a look through your attic or basement. Do you have a small vintage suitcase or a picnic basket that was a wedding gift and never got used? Dust it off and make it your designated spot for one or more wool, mohair or faux fur throw blankets. They will always be close enough to grab, but your house will look tidy!
