Patterned Custom rug from eddies and tide pools collection

CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS

Combinations for the Uniquely Inclined

Collaborating was a natural evolution for Susan Brunstrum. After years of creating custom pieces for her clients, she was invited by manufacturing partners to expand her aesthetic and thus Studio Brunstrum Home was launched. Each design offers the comfort and artistic flair that give a space balance -- with a trace of the unexpected.

Julie Dasher Rugs

Susan Brunstrum and Julie Dasher launched their first collection after years of joining forces to create custom rugs for clients.  Inspired by natural elements that Susan discovered during her travels, the Elements capsule collection comes in four different rug lines and are available in 17 colorways.  Natural fabrications include wool, wool and silk and cactus.  The line includes: Eddies & Tide Pools, Sophisticated Splashes, Vibrations and Camelia.

Eddies and Tidepools

The inspiration behind the design, pattern and first colorway came from a catamaran sail in Zihuatanejo. I have always been enamored with water as it is fluid and never ending. It is part of daily life. Water changes course, depth and color. The color is different in an ocean, lake, stream versus a river. And, it is even different within the same body of water. Looking into the depths is mesmerizing especially when the sun is shining as it adds a level of complexity to the coloration. Calming and relaxing or turbulent and frothy, water is ever changing just like me and our clients.

Sophisticated Splashes

Most often while walking the beach, I look down and not out at the ripple marks left in the sand by the rolling waves as they fascinate me. The waves and tides also wash up blobs of seaweed, small pieces of coral and rock and other treasures. While it does not rain often in Zihuatanejo, it happened to on my last visit and the shore was filled with sargassum masses (better known as seaweed) and the idea for the design of this rug was born.

Vibrations

The design, pattern and first colorway came from the same catamaran sail in Zihuatanejo, only instead of looking down into the depths of the water, I was looking up and out, intrigued by the water level (salt lines) left on the mountainsides. As the waves splash day after day, year after year, they leave a zig zag or jagged imprint/indent on the sides of the mountains. The pattern and variations were never the same and I could almost hear them singing and vibrating.

Camelia

While walking to and from the beach in Zihuatanejo, I would see a riot of colorful flowers on trees, bushes and in containers. Artfully organic and textural, I especially loved the camelia shrubs with glossy green leaves and fragrant rose-like flowers. Versatile and graceful and originally grown in China, camelias are now found in most warm climates.
